Honestly, I think we can close our borders and gather all the security intelligence we like but attacks like the one in Brussels cannot be prevented from happening again. Those suicide bombers, despite acting under the guidance of ISIS, are usually home-grown and very much on their own. In the wake of yesterday's tragic events, it would be all too easy for politicians to introduce more stringent anti-terror laws and whip up Islamophobia but are our civil liberties worth losing for the illusory feeling of greater security? Liberal democracies are threatened not by terrorist attacks but our response to them when we succumb to fear. We must be steadfast in the face of such evil and refuse to be terrorised. My thoughts go to the victims and their families.
